An Optimized Package to Solve the Client’s Problems in One Fell Swoop
At around this time, the team leader happened to attend a Users’ Conference of Mitsubishi Power’s gas turbine. He was engrossed by a presentation about Mitsubishi Power’s modular insulation package which comprises an intuitive guide system that harnesses wearable solutions coupled with blocks of insulation in easily workable sizes. The team leader knew instinctively that this solution would free his employer from the hassle of attaching mats and managing workers.
Mitsubishi Power’s guide system features a dedicated reader, which the operator wears on his/her neck. When the barcode on an insulation module is scanned, the system tells the operator graphically where on the turbine casing to attach the module, thereby eliminating the need to spend time searching for the correct location. The guide system also makes it easy to monitor the progress of the insulation process.

Highly thermally efficient and resilient, these insulation modules can be simply clipped onto brackets welded to the turbine casing. Because no specialized skills or tools are required, anyone, either a veteran or a novice, can attach the modules in minutes.
Case studies from other sites demonstrated that the use of the guide system could create an 80% reduction in process time compared to the current approach. The system not only ensured a high quality and consistent process, but would also enable the generator to reduce headcount and cut costs, thereby solving all of its problems in one fell swoop. After discussion with the related departments, the power producer decided to implement the block insulation package. It is currently performing simulations in preparation for the gas turbine’s next scheduled outage.
